Country music artist Miranda Lambert finally explained why she decided to ditch an interview immediately after the name of Gwen Stefani — the current girlfriend of Lambert’s ex-husband, Blake Shelton — was brought up.
Music artists and actors become more visible for press conferences and interviews prior to the release of their respective albums or movies. But the nine-time ACM Female Vocalist of the Year awardee decided to skip all the media appearances for the promotion of her 2016 album, “The Weight of These Wings.”
In a recent interview with Hits Daily Double, Lambert confirmed that she decided not to accept interviews before the release of her 2016 album. Lambert added that she believed everything she had to say was all on her songs. The "The House That Built Me" singer also thought media appearances before the launch of “The Weight of These Wings” were “going to be hell.”
“It was hell putting it on paper, putting my words on paper. So I didn’t want to rehash. I’d finally gotten to a place where I wasn’t sad anymore. All the sad moments were there, all the truths were right in those songs. All you had to do was listen. I didn’t need to say anything,” Miranda Lambert said.
However, even after the release of “The Weight of These Wings,” there were still some things that Lambert was obviously not ready to publicly discuss, like the time when a reporter directly asked her about Stefani. And Lambert’s natural response was to ditch the interview.
“When the music was out, people had listened, I got on the phone for the first interview. First question was, ‘How do you feel about Gwen?’ I hung up. I told [my manager] Marion, I just can’t do this,” Lambert explained.
Miranda Lambert was married to Shelton for four years until they announced their divorce in 2015. In the same year, Stefani also filed for divorce from Gavin Rossdale, her husband for 13 years, amid rumors of the Bush lead singer’s infidelity. Then, later in 2015, representatives of Stefani and Shelton confirmed that the “The Voice” coaches had started dating.
