Lee Min Ho is the newest ambassador of the King Sejong’s Institute. His new role is to help promote and increase the interest of the people to the Korean language.
To be more exact, Min Ho has been assigned to be the institute’s public relation ambassador of the King Sejong Institute Foundation. His task is to let the world know about the Korean language and culture. He is perfect for this work due to his status as a Hallyu Wave superstar who is recognized everywhere.
A ceremony has been scheduled to formally assigned Lee Min Ho as King Sejong’s Institute’s new chargé d'affaires. The event is set to take place on July 9 as per Yonhap News via Korea Herald.
King Sejong Institute's background
The King Sejong Institute was established by the South Korean government in 2007. The main aim of this educational center is to serve and help the foreigners learn Hangul, the Korean language. Its goal is to boost the interest of people for South Korea’s culture, which in turn could help the country’s tourism ministry.
There are about 180 centers that teach Korean worldwide, and some 60,000 students from 60 countries are currently taking lessons from the institute. Lee Min Ho is expected to draw more people who would like to learn the language and everything about Korea.
Why Lee Min Ho was chosen as the ambassador?
Aside from the actor’s popularity, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism appointed Min Ho because of his outstanding reputation in the country and abroad. “In order to keep up with the rising heat of the Korean Wave, through Lee Min Ho, we expect more people to know King Sejong Institute,” the tourism office stated.
Meanwhile, Lee Min Ho is returning to the entertainment industry after his discharge from the army two months ago. Fans will be able to see his comeback via the “The King: The Eternal Monarch” drama that is set to be released in 2020. Filming is expected to begin in the second half of this year, and he will be joined by Kim Go Eun and Woo Do Hwan.
