“Law & Order: SVU" season 20 will continue with the show’s theme of referencing real-world events in its storyline. This installment has already aired three episodes, with the next one – titled “Revenge” – slated to air on Oct. 11, Carter Matt reported.
The upcoming episode is expected to be a violent one as police officers are prompted to investigate an online incel group after a sequence of consecutive break-ins occurred. Of course, details regarding the next episode are unknown at the moment but it's speculated that these criminal acts are being handled by a single entity. These events will also likely ripple out in the plot of “Law & Order: SVU" season 20, leading to complicated twist and turns that will have Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the rest of the squad on their heels.
Indeed, executive producer Michael Chernuchin said that “Law & Order: SVU" season 20 will remind Benson of her own mortality. Chernuchin didn’t provide information regarding this statement but did give a bit of hint about this development. “She’s been working very hard for 20 years, and she doesn’t run as fast as she used to,” the EP teased.
Other themes for “Law & Order: SVU" season 20 will focus on immigration and stories revolving around the #MeToo movement. Both of these topics have been widely covered in the media this year, with both of them affecting the lives of celebrities and individual people.
While “Law & Order: SVU" season 20 still has a lot of episodes to cover in this installment, Chernuchin is apparently setting up the groundwork for a season 21. This installment is already quite the milestone for the police procedural drama but it seems that the executive producer is gearing up for more seasons. “We want it to go another five or six years, but becoming the longest-running show in history, we’re all building towards that,” Chernuchin revealed.
