The rumor claiming that Kyrie Irving’s next chapter is going to be the Brooklyn Nets has now taken a stronger stance following news that the Celtics guard has parted ways with his longtime agent Jeff Wechsler. Replacing Wechsler is supposedly Roc Nation Sports owned by rap icon Jay-Z, Yahoo Sports reported.
Given that Jay-Z is a former part owner of the Nets and is a popular figure representing Brooklyn, it’s no surprise that the team is being touted as the next destination of Kyrie Irving. With the organization proving to the league that it has reinvented itself and managing to make an appearance in the recently concluded Playoffs, the 27-year-old could be the missing link to transform the team into a legitimate threat.
This is especially true since the offensive power of the roster could use a significant boost. With Kyrie Irving averaging 23.8 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.0 rebounds, the team could stand to gain to land such a talented player.
Add the fact that the Nets could opt to part ways with D’Angelo Russell to open up the chances of acquiring two max free agents and the organization’s future is looking promising. For his part, Russell appears to be ecstatic with Kyrie Irving’s impending arrival as has been hinted by this Twitter post.
So if the Nets does manage to land the talented guard, who’s the other guy that will be paired with him? Well, rumors would have it that Kyrie Irving might be looking to entice Kevin Durant to join him in the Nets. The two were previously thought to be heading to the New York Knicks after a video went viral showing the two having an animated conversation a few months back. Irving has since commented about the video and wasn’t too happy about the assumptions that the sports media have created.
“It’s a video of me and one of my best friends talking,” Kyrie Irving started. “And then it turns out to be a dissection of a free agency meeting? Do you get that? Like, do you get that? And then I’m asked questions about that? That’s what disconnects me from all that s***.”
