Kit Harington is now rumored to take on the role of “Batman” after speculations that Ben Affleck has been dropped by Warner Bros. because of his recent alcohol relapse. However, this is nothing but a false narrative at this point, which was started by this YouTube video.
The clip claims that Kit Harington is the running favorite of Warner Bros. to play the Caped Crusader. But this has been quickly shot down thanks to EW’s James Hibberd, who tweeted a response after tabloids started picking up the unfounded claim, Comic Book reported.
As for Ben Affleck’s reprisal of the role, it’s still unclear whether Warner Bros. will have the actor play Batman again given that he's currently focused on being sober at the moment. The “Good Will Hunting” actor recently stepped back from the writing and directing duties for the upcoming “Batman” film and was replaced by Matt Reeves. Now, Kit Harington, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Jack Huston are being purported as the three actors being heavily considered to replace Affleck.
Again, this is nothing but a rumor and Warner Bros. hasn’t issued any statement regarding the Batman role just yet. And while Kit Harington did express his desire of playing the iconic superhero, the “Game of Thrones” star doesn’t seem to be serious about the matter, judging by his past statement.
Little is known about the upcoming Batman film but Matt Reeves did say that he’s close to finishing the draft and will soon send it over to the studio. Reeves revealed that the film’s premise will be “noir-driven” and will have the Dark Knight investigate a particular case. While Kit Harington can possibly pull off a “Batman” role, he’s probably more suited to playing “Nightwing” instead.
With all this superhero talk and Kit Harington moving around, the “Game of Thrones” star recently called out Marvel for not casting gay individuals in their franchise. But Marvel president Kevin Feige has said that LGBTQ characters are on the way and they’re preparing to make their ensemble more diverse. In addition, Feige said that these characters may already have appeared on the big screen or may appear in the upcoming Marvel franchises like “Captain Marvel” and “Spider-Man: Far from Home.”
