KT Telecom, the largest telecom service operator in South Korea, has joined forces with Zoom to provide different business-to-business (B2B) digital services in the country. Taking advantage of the increasing demand for online meeting solutions, KT Telecom tapped the American video conference platform company, to be its partner.
According to Aju Business Daily, with all the available video conference call apps, the most preferred one in South Korea is Zoom. In fact, it garnered around 80% of the market share, and most of its users are students and employees.
The number of users grew at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone was stuck at home. This was the time when schools and offices were closed so virtual classes and working remotely became the only option.
Moreover, Zoom is probably the most favored one because it is very easy to use, and even with the great features available for users, it is free for up to 40 minutes under the basic plan. It surely offers good working and studying environments for students and employees.
KT Telecom stated that through its collaboration with Zoom, it would release a number of B2B services to further make communication easier. The telecom giant said that customers could avail of the services through its own Zoom subscription service that is paid monthly.
With an active subscription, users will have access to Zoom’s corporate services starting next year. KT will also release its "Zoom Phone" special app, which will allow subscribers to enjoy the video conferencing services using their mobile phone numbers.
The deal will let KT upgrade its mobile cooperation solution, which is a tool that will offer a video conferencing function so companies can organize and hold meetings at any time and place. The company is mainly targeting local corporate customers for its B2B digital services with Zoom.
KT hopes to upgrade its collaborative service for business, which is a digital service for cooperative work among employees, by incorporating Zoom Meeting into the digital service package. KT’s goal is to strengthen its B2B digital service portfolio amid the digital transformation accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We will be able to come up with more innovative products through the digital transformation of B2B telecom services in collaboration with Zoom, the iconic Silicon Valley company,” Korea Joongang Daily quoted KT enterprise digital transformation service unit head, Min Hye Byeong, as saying. “We will continue to offer new B2B solutions for mid-sized and large companies interested in global services.”
