Johnny Depp’s lawyer responds to actor’s ‘disturbing’ texts threatening to burn, drown ex-wife Amber Heard

Johnny Depp recently made headlines again after a series of his cryptic texts were released during a pre-trial hearing.

In his conversation with his friend Paul Bettany, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star threatened to drown and burn his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Depp also seemingly confirmed his drug and alcohol use.

A day later, Depp’s legal counsel criticized the way that his client’s text messages were released to the public. He said that they weren’t being reported about properly.

While speaking with Yahoo Entertainment, Depp’s US attorney Adam Waldman said that this is exactly why his client seeks justice from the court and not the media.

“The media will not report that at the end of a demonstrated abuse victim’s single frustrated text to a friend, Johnny confides to Paul Bettany that he could in fact never ‘spray my rage at the one I love’ and says he will use pills instead to numb the pain. This is the best text of 70,000 the desperate The Sun tabloid could muster to save their skin,” he said.

Meanwhile, Depp’s lawyer in the United Kingdom, David Sherborne, defended the actor by saying that Heard wasn’t the victim but the aggressor.

“One person, one side, is lying and one is not. Obviously, we say that it is Ms. Heard [who is lying], Mr. Depp is 100% clear about that. Nowhere, I repeat, nowhere, is there a single smoking gun, text, or email, no document — unlike Ms. Heard’s own taped confession we looked at before; there is no document where Mr. Depp says 'I hit Ms. Heard' let alone ‘I hit her on numerous occasions,” he said.

Depp and Heard’s domestic abuse case made headlines again weeks ago after audiotapes of the former couple’s fight were leaked online via Daily Mail. In the recordings, Heard admitted to physically abusing her ex-wife.

The “Aquaman” star also taunted Depp by saying that no one would believe him if he says that he’s a victim of domestic violence.
