Johnny Depp allegedly losing his fortune following Amber Heard and ‘The Sun’ win in the defamation case in the UK

Johnny Depp filed a case against the publisher of ‘The Sun’ newspaper in the U.K. The case stemmed from the article that the paper wrote a couple of years ago. In the headline, ‘The Sun’ labeled the A-list actor as a ‘wife beater.’

The case was tried early this year, and the verdict was announced this month. Many were disappointed that ‘The Sun’ won because it means that Amber Heard’s claims are true. People have voiced out their support for Johnny Depp and vowed to fight with him until he gets justice for what his ex-wife had done to him.

Now, as the result of his loss in the case, it was reported that Johhny Depp is going broke. The court battle cost him a lot, and it was claimed that he could not support the court trials much longer because his bank account is running out of funds already.

Johnny’s alleged mounting debt

As per the report that was published in the National Enquirer, the 57-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” star is now in a difficult situation as he is drowning in debt after losing in the libel case he filed against the said publication based in the U.K.

In the article titled "Depp Drowns In Debt In Plot To Sink Amber," it was further stated that Johnny Depp is going for broke in his quest to ruin his ex-wife Amber Heard. He still has another court battle to go through in Virginia where the actor filed a $50 million defamation case over Amber Heard’s op-ed in The Washington Post that was published in 2018.

Heard accused her ex-husband of domestic abuse and Johnny is out to clear his name by suing her for libel. Then again, the National Enquirer claimed that this legal process is draining his coffers.

“Unless he figures out some way to scrimp and save, he'll be hitting bankruptcy soon,” the magazine wrote. "He had $100 million budgeted when this mess started and it's disappearing fast with lawyers' fees, court costs, and everything else."

Johnny Depp did not expect this kind of impact on his wealth. The tabloid claimed he did not see that the legal battle would be this costly and he realized it too late as he’s going broke.

The truth

Gossip Cop stated that while some facts in the article were true, it added misleading claims about Johnny Depp. The truth is - he may have to spend a lot on this legal case to clear his name but he has the funds to support his battles.

He is not going broke as stated in the article and in fact, GC stated that Johnny Depp was still paid in full even if Warner Bros. asked him to resign as one of the stars in the upcoming sequel of the “Fantastic Beasts.” This means he did not lose money even if he lost the case in the U.K. so his bank is full.
