Jimmy Butler is apparently causing a lot of drama for the Minnesota Timberwolves as he once again sat out when his team faced the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday evening. This marks the second time in just two weeks that the forward has missed a game, NBA.com reported.
Last week, Jimmy Butler opted to not play when the Timberwolves went up against the Denver Nuggets. Although the Timberwolves won that match thanks to Derick Rose’s spectacular performance, the team wasn’t as fortunate this time around, losing to the Trailblazers by more than 30 points.
While Karl-Anthony Towns and the rest of the roster tried their best to stay within striking distance in the early quarters, the Trailblazers pulled ahead later on. And with Jimmy Butler and Derick Rose not playing, the team lagged behind in the third and fourth quarters of the match.
Jimmy Butler’s recent refusal to play and tendency to put up disappointing numbers when he’s on the court are proving to be detrimental to the team. But this isn’t the first time that the forward has been unpopular with his team and the organization behind it.
According to Sporting News's Mitch Lawrence, Jimmy Butler wasn’t also liked when he was playing for the Chicago Bulls and was seen as an “arrogant” player. Now, it seems that the forward is exhibiting the same attitude towards his teammates and the rest of the Timberwolves staff.
Jimmy Butler has also taken out some of his frustration on the press lately when asked about his decision to sit out games. "So stop asking me questions about if I'm going to sit out or not. If I'm going to sit out, you probably won't talk to me on the day I sit out; but if I do, then I do and you can create a story around it with a lot of made-up stuff like y'all normally do,” Butler said.
The forward’s behavior is not just affecting the standing of the team but is supposedly threatening the job of Timberwolves Coach Tom Thibodeau as well. Timberwolves bigwig Glen Taylor apparently gave an ultimatum to Thibodeau to trade Butler as his behavior has had a lot of negative effects on the roster, both in the locker and on the court.
