In a rare chance, Jennifer Aniston’s estranged husband Justin Theroux talked about their separation as a married couple. Theroux reiterated that they arrived at the decision to break up with respect for one another and parted ways with “no animosity.
Theroux was interviewed by the New York Times for a profile published over the weekend. It was one of the few instances where “The Spy Who Dumped Me” actor opened up about his relationship with Aniston.
A breakup, especially between married couples, is naturally a painful process. But Theroux had no bitter words about the relationship he had with Aniston. “The good news is that was probably the most — I’m choosing my words really carefully — it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity,” Theroux said.
“The Leftovers” alum added that the difficult aspect of his separation from Jennifer Aniston was, in fact, dealing with public opinion. “In a weird way, just sort of navigating the inevitable perception of it is the exhausting part,” Justin Theroux explained.
In Aniston’s interview for the cover story of InStyle magazine’s July 2018 issue, she reacted to the overwhelming number of gossip reports painting a sorry picture of her following her failed marriages. But the actress commented that she is not heartbroken and maintained that she is doing just fine.
Theroux seemed to have echoed Aniston's sentiment. “It was heartbreaking only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day," Theroux added.
Even when they announced their separation in February, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux insisted on remaining friends after closing the chapter as a married couple. “We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship,” the statement read.
The New York Times also asked Theroux if he has started going out with anyone since his split from Aniston. But he only jokingly said, “Is this the part where I coyly raise an eyebrow and not answer the question?”
However, Jennifer Aniston’s ex was spotted on Monday walking around Paris with “Spider-Man: Homecoming” actress Laura Harrier. Their representatives have yet to shoot down imminent dating rumors. Meanwhile, PEOPLE recalled that the pair was also seen partying together in Antibes earlier this year.
