NBA star Jaylen Brown has officially launched his independent sneaker brand, 741 Performance, debuting his first basketball shoe. Inspired by Kobe Bryant’s vision, Brown’s new venture focuses on innovation and minimalist design. The first shoe will be available for pre-order ahead of its October 22 release.
Jaylen Brown Launches 741 Performance, Showcasing His First Independent Basketball Shoe on NBA Media Day
For the past two seasons, Jaylen Brown's sneaker choices have featured a variety of brands, with logos cleverly concealed beneath alternate imagery and messaging. However, speculation about which brand he'll align with next has ended. In the future, Brown will be wearing shoes from his independent brand.
On September 25, Jaylen Brown officially launched his sneaker brand, 741 Performance, debuting his first basketball shoe. In a report by Sneaker News, Brown has been wearing the sneakers throughout the summer, gaining attention by gifting pairs to young fans at New York City's Rucker Park. The boots also made an official NBA appearance during Boston's Media Day, where Brown was photographed wearing them.
Along with the first official look at the sneakers, the brand released a statement: "Welcome to 741, the future of performance. With innovation at its core, 741 fuses advanced technology and minimalist design, redefining what it means to step into your potential. These sneakers are engineered for champions, built for those who seek excellence at every step."
Inspired by Kobe Bryant, Jaylen Brown Launches 741 Performance After Leaving Major Sneaker Brands
Since joining the NBA, Brown was initially signed with adidas, but that contract expired in 2022. He briefly signed with the Chinese brand PEAK but often resorted to wearing Nike Kobe and adidas footwear, covering the logos due to fit issues. Brown has been vocal in criticizing Nike, especially in response to the company's decision to cut ties with Kyrie Irving. Additionally, he indirectly accused Nike of playing a role in his exclusion from the 2024 USA Men's Basketball Team, which the brand has significant investments in.
Brown created his path rather than signing up with another major brand. According to Complex, he drew inspiration from Kobe Bryant, who had plans to start his own independent athletic shoe company before his untimely passing in 2020, which altered those plans.
Pre-orders for 741 Performance's first shoe will soon open on the brand's website. The official release date is October 22.
