Pizza-La has launched nationwide delivery of its Wanko Pizza, a dog-friendly dish featuring a chicken-based crust. First introduced in 2021, the Wanko Pizza is now available across Japan due to high pet and owner demand.
Pizza-La's Wanko Pizza Offers Canine-Friendly Teriyaki Chicken Crust for Nationwide Delivery
It's hard to find a more universally beloved food than Pizza. Enjoyed by people of all ages, Pizza has crossed cultural barriers to become a category of its own, with even those who may not favor Italian cuisine often delighting in a slice.
Given Pizza's widespread appeal, it stands to reason that dogs might also share this love. This is the concept behind Japanese pizza chain Pizza-La's Wanko ("Doggy") Pizza, which has now become available for nationwide delivery.
It should be noted that the Wanko Pizza is delivered by human Pizza-La staff—not by dogs dressed in charming uniforms, as some might imagine.
While Pizza-La offers a variety of toppings for its pizzas intended for humans, the Wanko Pizza is currently available in just one variety. The Wanko Pizza is modeled after Pizza-La's best-selling teriyaki chicken pizza to cater to canine tastes, featuring teriyaki chicken, corn, mushrooms, and shredded seaweed. The critical difference is that the Wanko Pizza uses a chicken-based crust rather than dough, giving it an extra meaty texture designed to appeal to dogs. Developed in partnership with Japanese pet food company Comif Deli, the Wanko Pizza is crafted with dog-friendly ingredients and seasonings, ensuring it's safe and healthy for dogs.
Wanko Pizza, Now Available Nationwide, Offers Frozen Dog-Friendly Meals for Easy Preparation
Initially launched in 2021, the Wanko Pizza was sold only in pet supply stores. A year later, a limited number of Pizza-La locations began offering it, and due to positive feedback from both pets and their owners, the dog-friendly Pizza became available at Pizza-La branches nationwide as of September 9. However, the Wanko Pizza is delivered frozen and requires either six hours in the fridge or around two minutes in the microwave to thaw. Pizza-La recommends serving it at room temperature rather than hot.
The Wanko Pizza can be ordered online. It is priced at 880 yen (US$6.10) and measures 10 centimeters (3.9 inches) in diameter. And for those curious, humans can eat it too, as confirmed by the SoraNews24 taste-testing team.
