The second season of “Jack Ryan” has been streaming for about a month now, but fans have yet to hear the official explanation why Cathy Mueller (Abbie Cornish) was a no-show in the eight new episodes. While producers and cast have yet to address the issue, fans could be wondering what are the chances for Cathy to return in “Jack Ryan” season 3.
'Jack Ryan' season 3 plot prediction: How Cathy could come back
It should be noted that in other versions of Tom Clancy’s Ryanverse, Cathy has often appeared in sequels even though her presence usually diminishes as the story goes. Jack (John Krasinski) is a CIA agent with missions happening around the world while Cathy is a doctor situated in the United States. So it is not weird for them not to be seen together.
However, what’s bugging fans who have seen “Jack Ryan” season 2 was the fact that Jack has never even said her name in any scene. Cathy’s non-appearance was further questioned when Jack slept with German intelligence office Harry Baumann (Noomi Rapace). Harry now appears to be Jack’s new love interest, and because of their very similar job descriptions, it is understandable why fans are more worried they will never see Cathy again.
On the other hand, not mentioning Cathy in season 2 could be a good thing. This way, the writers did not officially seal Cathy’s removal from the plot should they decide to bring her back in “Jack Ryan” season 3.
There are many ways to write Cathy back in the plot. Making her part of the next mission could allow her to be around Jack in more scenes in “Jack Ryan” season 3, but that might appear as mere fanservice.
'Jack Ryan' season 3 release date, cast: What to expect
Changes are expected in “Jack Ryan” season 3, especially in the cast. It has yet to be confirmed if newly introduce main characters like Baumann and Mike November (Michael Kelly) are coming back. What Greer (Wendell Pierce) experience in season 2 seemingly convinced him that his time on the field should end soon.
Ideally, “Jack Ryan” season 3 would premiere in 2020. But if filming would not start anytime soon, fans should not rule out an early 2021 release date.
