JPMorgan Chase & Co and Deutsche Bank AG are seeking the dismissal of lawsuits by women who accused Jeffrey Epstein of sexual abuse and blamed them for enabling and ignoring red flags about the late financier's sex trafficking.
In papers filed in the Manhattan federal court, the banks insist that they did not participate in or benefit from their former client’s sex trafficking.
They added that the unnamed women failed to allege federal anti-trafficking law violations.
The banks added that it is not their duty to protect the women from Epstein and did not cause his abuses.
Thus, the claims should be dismissed under a new law in New York that lets abuse victims sue even if statutes of limitations have expired.
JPMorgan said that the meritless claims were filed against the wrong party.
