White House adviser Ivanka Trump defended her father Donald Trump’s use of social media during her speech at the Republican convention. However, following her defense of the president, The View host Meghan McCain criticized Ivanka’s defense of her father.
Ivanka made introductory remarks about her father during the Republican convention. Trump’s eldest daughter touched on his use of social media, specifically, his constant use of Twitter, describing his comments as “unfiltered.” Trump is known for often using his Twitter account to attack people who disagree or criticize him, including The View host Meghan McCain’s father, the late Senator John McCain. Meghan then took to Twitter to criticize the White House adviser, noting some of the remarks Trump has made towards her father.
“It’s not a “communication style,” it’s cruelty and indecency. Trump said he didn’t like POWs who were captured, implied my father was burning in hell after he died and constantly trashed him while he was fighting brain cancer. This is how they have lost all decent people,” tweeted Meghan.
McCain was among the few Republican senators who opposed Trump’s policies upon entering the presidency, which put him at odds with Trump. Trump famously attacked McCain for voting against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act that was implemented by the Obama administration. McCain was the deciding vote.
“Whether or agree with him or not, you always know where he stands. I recognize that my dad’s communication style is not to everyone’s taste, and I know his tweets can feel a bit ...unfiltered. But the results speak for themselves,” said Ivanka during the convention.
Meanwhile, first lady Melania Trump’s former confidante and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff revealed the rivalry is often reported about Ivanka and her stepmother in her memoir about her friendship with the first lady. Wolkoff wrote that Melania refers to Ivanka as “Princess” and has called both her and her husband Jared Kushner “snakes” through text messages shared between the women.
One of the excerpts that were published ahead of its release this week also recalls the time that Wolkoff and Melania tried to thwart Ivanka’s attempt to somewhat undermine her stepmother by keeping her out of the official photographs of Donald’s swearing-in during the inauguration in 2017.
