‘Iron Fist’ star Jessica Henwick, who plays Danny Rand’s ally Colleen Wing, admitted that she and co-star Finn Jones used their ‘Game of Thrones’ advantage to ace their Marvel auditions for the new series.
According to Comic Book Movie, Henwick talked about her character Colleen Wing for the upcoming superhero web television series developed for Netflix during an interview with Marvel Entertainment. She also admitted how she and co-star Finn Jones aced their first auditions by using their ‘Game of Thrones’ friendship as an advantage.
Henwick teased her character saying, “I play Colleen Wing, who is a badass by all accounts. A badass is how I think you would say it. She runs a dojo in New York and she’s just a hustler trying to survive and live her life when Danny Rand, who is the Iron Fist, comes over and kind of ruins her life and messes everything up… and she’s just so much fun to play, such a pleasure.”
She continued, “So I really hope the fans connect with her. I mean, we dropped our trailer at the New York Comic-Con and people went insane. So I hope we fulfill those expectations.”
Henwick admitted that the New York Comic-Con was her first official Marvel event and that it was her biggest convention so far since she already attended a couple in the past. She talked about how the energy gave her “motivation and morale to keep working.”
The 24-year old English actress of East Asian descent is best known for her role as Nymeria Sand on HBO’s popular television series ‘Game of Thrones.’ She also appeared on J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’ as the character Jessica Pava.
When asked about her prior working experience with Jones, she replied that they’ve known each other for years. Henwick said, “It was really funny in our audition, because we knew each other… The night before, I went over to his apartment, and we just ran the lines over and over again. Then, I went into the audition and I was like ‘Finn, lovely to see you! Haven’t seen you in ages! Oh my gosh!’ So we completely pretended…when we did the scene, it seemed like the chemistry was so instant. But really we’d worked on it for hours. We just pretended that it was off the cuff, which was fun.”
Jones also rose to international stardom for his role as Loras Tyrell in ‘Game of Thrones’.’ He is set to play the titular character Danny Rand a.k.a. Iron Fist, a billionaire Buddhist monk and martial arts expert who returns to New York City after being missing for 15 years in order to reclaim his family’s company. Danny has the ability to call on the Iron Fist to fight social injustices in his city.
According to IGN, ‘Iron Fist’ is the fourth and final Marvel street-level superhero to make his debut on the small screen before the Netflix shows culminate for ‘The Defenders.’ Joining Henwick and Jones in the cast are David Wenham as the ruthless Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Harold’s daughter Joy, and Tom Pelphrey as Harold’s son Ward. Rosario Dawson will also be reprising her role as the nurse Claire Temple for the new series while Carrie-Ann Moss will be appearing as attorney Jeri Hogarth.
‘Iron Fist’ is an upcoming web television series developed by Scott Buck for Netflix. It is based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It is intended to share continuity with the films of the franchise as well as the television series ‘Daredevil’, ‘Jessica Jones’, and ‘Luke Cage.’
