Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, proudly showcased the Ioniq 5 Batik edition at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in Tangerang. This special edition electric vehicle, adorned with Indonesia's traditional batik pattern, commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Seoul and Jakarta.
The Ioniq 5 Batik edition, produced in Indonesia since March 2022, has remarkably impacted the market, with 3,362 units sold in the first half of this year.
To further demonstrate its commitment to the ASEAN region, Hyundai plans to supply 346 units of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 sedan for the upcoming 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Jakarta. The Ioniq 5 will serve as the operational vehicle for the conference, while the Ioniq 6 will function as the official ceremonial vehicle for the leaders' spouses attending the summit.
Indonesia's traditional batik pattern, known as the Kawung pattern, adds a touch of cultural richness to the Ioniq 5 Batik edition. Inspired by the palm tree's fruit motif, this pattern can be seen on the vehicle's hood, roof, side panels, and the steering wheel, armrest, and seats in its interior.
According to Zelda Wulan Kartika, the deputy of the Indonesian Embassy representative in Seoul, the recent edition highlights electric vehicles and the significance of batik as a UNESCO cultural heritage that should be promoted.
The diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and South Korea has existed since 1973. As part of the 50th bilateral anniversary celebrations, KBRI in Seoul has planned various events, including business forums focusing on key topics such as partnerships in the financial sector, electric vehicles, health, and renewable energy investment.
Hyundai Motor Co.'s commitment to innovation and cultural appreciation shines through the Ioniq 5 Batik edition, which merges cutting-edge electric vehicle technology with Indonesia's rich artistic heritage.
