A beloved Showtime spy-thriller just gasped its last breath as the American television network officially announced that “Homeland” season 8 will be the show's last season. The show's network has decided that the time has come to end the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series.
While the show has been involved in controversies concerning its subject matter in the past, there is no confirmation that the decision to end the series was due to conflicts with real-world ideologies.
Showtime CEO and president David Nevins praises the show for its storytelling and says that the end of the series is due to the natural conclusion of its storyline. “Homeland” showrunner Alex Gansa mentions that season 7 has already set up the plot points that can be wrapped up nicely by the show's season 8.
The show's star, Claire Danes, who plays CIA case officer Carrie Mathison, confirms that season 8 will be the end of the series as well in an interview with Howard Stern. The veteran radio jockey asked if the show will be wrapping up with its eighth season.
For what fans of the spy series can expect from “Homeland” season 8, Alex Gansa mentions that the final season will be focused overseas rather than looking back at events in the titular homeland. Gansa also mentions that the season will focus on smaller-scale intelligence operations rather than the big picture setpieces that the previous season had. Fans should also expect a time skip considering that Season 7 left us with a traumatized Carrie Mathison, who has had to endure incarceration by Russian authorities.
Since production for “Homeland” season 8 has yet to commence, there has yet to be any promotional materials such as teaser trailers for the season. Should production go smoothly, fans can expect “Homeland” season 8 to broadcast its premiere episode sometime in June 2019.
