“High School Musical 4” has been announced for several years now; however, plot details are still very scarce. But many fans of the original trilogy are certainly wondering if there is a way to bring back to original cast members.
Practically nothing is known yet about the storyline of “High School Musical 4.” What was somehow confirmed by earlier reports is that the upcoming TV movie will revolve around a new generation of East High students led by a boy named Campbell.
The said character, who is dubbed as Troy 2.0, is the only direct link to the original cast members. This “High School Musical 4” character was described by TVLine as a cousin of the Evans twins Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel).
There were four other characters named and described in the same report, but it appears that Campbell is the only one related to the original cast members. Through Campbell, various scenarios could take place where the new generation of East High students would be needing help or advice from the alumni.
It might be quite impossible to bring the original cast back to film for "High School Musical 4.” But they could still participate in the production in some capacity like filming short scenes such as through make-believe video calls. The big caveat here, though, is that Tisdale previously implied she is not that excited to reprise her role.
“I honestly don't think I would, just based off of, I don't know if I could fill her shoes again," Tisdale told E! News when asked about returning for “High School Musical 4.” "I've matured so much, I just don't know if I could give her justice — Sharpay — and be that character again. And I would hate to not have it be great."
Unfortunately, Disney Channel has not yet provided any update since announcing “High School Musical 4” in 2016. The only bright side to this is the fact that the entertainment company has not yet canceled the project as well.
