The search for HIV/AIDS cure is on-going and people especially those who are suffering from the disease are hoping that it will be available soon. The hunt for the cure has been going on for more than three decades so it is about time that treatment is found.

What is HIV?

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the virus that causes AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. This type of retrovirus shoves its genome into the DNA of the patient’s CD4 white blood cells leading to the permanent alteration of those genomes. Once altered, the cells become “HIV factories” because they produce more viruses until the cells explode and eventually infect the other cells.

Treatments and medications are available for people suffering from AIDS. Patients should continuously take their medicines and undergo treatments to avoid the disease from becoming severe and results in death.

The available treatments

As per Biospace, currently, there is no HIV/AIDS cure yet but testing and various treatment methods are already available. While they can’t really cure the patient, they can greatly improve their health condition and help them get back to their normal lives.

The first advice for AIDS positive individuals is to get antiretroviral drugs to stop the virus from multiplying and decrease the number of the virus as well. Today, those who take the treatment regularly have a higher chance of going into remission and reduced the risk of transmission too.

The HIV/AIDS cure is coming in 2020?

The foundation for AIDS research called amfAR stated that it had started the countdown for the availability of cure. On its page, it was stated that the “Countdown to a Cure” was designed to broaden the foundation’s cure-focused research program for HIV.

It was revealed that amfAR believes that it is possible that HIV/AIDS cure is coming as early as this year. The reason for this is because the scientific obstacles that researchers always face in their search for the cure have finally been “illuminated” which means they can be eliminated from now on because they now know how to do it.

Thus, they can solely focus on the cure and make their work faster. With no roadblocks, the HIV/AIDS cure will be ready in no time.
