Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are very much in love, however, they cannot marry each other yet as the former’s marriage to her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale is not yet annulled. In this regard, the “Used to Love You” singer reportedly asked Pope Francis to dissolve her first marriage.
As Us Weekly reported, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s wedding has been put on hold due to the former’s religious beliefs. It was said that Gwen only started to formally have her marriage to Gavin Rossdale annulled by the Catholic Church. This is because it is only when the process is done that the church would recognize her marriage to Blake Shelton.
"Gwen's religion has always been extremely important to her," the source told the magazine. "Blake is completely supportive of this."
It as understood that the Catholic Church will refuse to officiate a wedding even after a divorce. It will only agree once the first marriage has been properly annulled. Now, since this is the case, National Enquirer (via Gossip Cop) reported that Gwen Stefani will go to Rome to personally ask Pope Francis to cancel her marriage to Gavin Rossdale.
“Gwen is planning a trip to the Vatican in Rome with Blake and her parents to make her appeal to Pope Francis in person,” the source supposedly told the paper. “But Gavin is furious over her plan and isn’t going to let Gwen just sweep their marriage under the rug.”
With that said, Gwen Stefani is reportedly willing to beg for Pope Francis to grant her wish of annulment from her first husband and marry Blake Shelton. However, Gossip Cop pointed out that the source mentioned in this story does not even exist because it was not named and could not be traced as well.
GC also reached out to Gwen Stefani’s reps and was told that the story is false. It was added that the singer is not even in the process of dissolving her marriage to Gavin and she did not make a trip to Rome and not even planning on going in any time.
