Much like in real life, the COVID-19 pandemic will still be a primary struggle for the hospital workers and medical professionals in Grey Sloan Memorial. While Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is still bed-ridden, other characters such as Koracick (Greg Germann) and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) will be severely hit by the virus as well in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 17 episode 5.
Why fans are concerned about Koracick
Koracick has not been the best in dealing with his COVID-19 diagnosis and has been trying to get out of his mandatory 14-day quarantine. But that is long gone now that he has started to exhibit symptoms. Unfortunately, his case is expected to get worse as he is shown being rushed to Grey Sloan in the “Grey’s Anatomy” season 17 episode 5 preview.
The neurosurgeon was already not looking good in the previous episode when he did not even have the physical strength to answer the door when Teddy (Kim Raver) visited him. But the clips that show Koracick being brought to the hospital suggest that his condition is about to get worse this week.
These images were enough to make some viewers concerned over the fate of Koracick in the show, especially considering previous reports that a major character could be dying in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 17. It was reported earlier this year that someone’s death was planned as part of the original season 16 finale, which had to be cut short after production was interrupted by the pandemic.
Fans are now considering the possibility for the writers and producers to carry out that storyline in season 17. The preview of “Grey’s Anatomy” season 17, episode 5, however, hints at Meredith’s condition getting better. This then makes Koracick the more likely character to be written off the show.
Grey Sloan’s COVID-19 battle is getting more personal
Teasers for the upcoming episodes suggest that the situation in Grey Sloan in terms of handling COVID-19 patients will not get any better soon. Making things more difficult in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 17 episode 5, a family member of one of the hospital’s pillars will be brought in due to the virus. The preview for the next episode shows Warren (Jason George) bringing in Bailey’s mother to Grey Sloan, likely because of COVID-19 symptoms. The show returns with a new episode on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
