“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is the follow-up to the 2014 reboot “Godzilla,” where the kaiju was reintroduced to the world after fighting two other super monsters. In this new installment, the filmmakers are upping the ante by having the monster icon fight three gigantic opponents at the same time. They might not stand a chance against Godzilla, however, especially with Charles Dance on his side.
In a newly uploaded trailer on YouTube, many of the scenes already revealed in a previous clip were shown with a few minor differences. This is a Japanese trailer of “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” after all. What’s more, there will be a new clip scheduled for release this weekend during the Tokyo Comic-Con, so fans will definitely want to watch out for that.
Coming back to the most recent “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” trailer, however, the actor who played Tywin Lannister in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” was briefly shown near the end. In his usual foreboding voice, he said “Long Live the King,” likely in reference to Godzilla. Along with other hints throughout the trailer, this is indicative of the cooperation that the humans are intending on forming with the kaiju.
Considering just how many formidable enemies there are in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” it only makes sense that the human characters would choose the monster they already know. It was shown in the previous movie that, while Godzilla cares nothing for people, he does not want to actively hurt them either.
This makes him preferable as an ally than he is an enemy, which is why the “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” trailer show fighter jets practically escorting the kaiju through a city. The movie is set to premiere on May 31, 2019, so fans will have to wait a while more to see the king again.
