It has been a while since Sony confirmed that “God of War” is getting a sequel for PS5. The company may have accidentally confirmed its title to be “Ragnarok,” unfortunately, using an unofficial art.

Every aspect of video games, especially AAA titles, are significant to the whole essence of the game. From titles to key visual arts, these are often well-designed elements so the developer delivers the story and gameplay experience they are aiming for. This explains why it was a big deal when fans noticed that Sony’s IR Day 2021 presentation included a logo for the next “God of War” game with the title “Ragnarok.”

After the “God of War: Ragnarok” titles made several headlines, Gematsu told its Twitter followers that it had pulled out its story about the sequel. The publication said Sony Interactive Entertainment had apparently used a “Google Image-searched a fan logo for its own game.” Simply put, what fans thought was a discreet confirmation of the game’s official title was actually an epic blunder.

SIE has yet to officially address the matter. But “God of War” game director Cory Barlog tweeted a face-palm meme of Captain Picard, which many thought was his way of reacting to the mistake.

Also, upon checking, the 37-page document has been edited. The section for the PS5 post-launch lineup still includes “God of War.” But it has been replaced with the PS4 game’s official logo and no longer bears the word “Ragnarok.”

While the “God of War” sequel’s title has not been announced officially, speculations that it is going to be “Ragnarok” started because of an official teaser. When Sony confirmed last September that the next game is planned as a PS5 title, the trailer left fans with the message: “Ragnarok is coming.”

So far, many details about the sequel are still under wraps. The next “God of War” is also expected to launch this year, but Sony and developer Santa Monica Studio have yet to confirm a specific release date. For now, fans who own the PS4 game can enjoy a free enhance update for the PS5 console.
