Global Geopolitical Series: Mark your calendars on 18th September for highly important United Nations General Assembly in New York

Mark your calendars on 18th September as the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will begin its 9-day convention in New York as it is turning out to be one of the biggest geopolitical events of the year, where countries are set to negotiate on many pressing issues of the time; U.S. sanctions on Iran, North Korea denuclearization, peace between Israelis and Palestinians, Syria, the future of trans-Atlantic partnership, and more.

United States envoy to the United Nations, Niki Haley has confirmed that United States President Donald Trump will be chairing a meeting of the United Nations’ Security Council (UNSC) to discuss issues relating to Iran. The US has assumed the rotating presidency over the UN Security Council, held by each of the members in turn for a month, and determined to make the most of it. Preventing Iran from ever accessing the nuclear weapons has been one of the cornerstones of President Trump’s foreign policy.

The meeting would also see Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Imran Khan to attend the meeting for the first time and there is a possibility of a showdown between Pakistan and its arch-rival India.
