Xbox fans who also love racing games might be getting a new “Forza” game way sooner than they expected. A known gaming journalist reported that “Forza Horizon 5” could be released as soon as 2021, even before the already announced “Forza Motorsport.”
‘Forza Horizon 5’ release date slated next year?
When Microsoft unveiled the first teaser to the upcoming “Forza Motorsport,” most fans assumed that it is the only title to be released from the franchise. It turns out, however, there is a chance that a new “Forza Horizon” title could be released at an earlier schedule.
The rumors about “Forza Horizon 5” started when GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb said during an appearance at the Xbox Empire podcast that developer Playground Games, the studio developing the “Forza Horizon” series, might surprise fans in the near future. “I think we might get the next Forza Horizon game first and I think that might be coming this coming year,” Grubb said (via VGC). “They’re in a weird situation where for some reason Playground says it does seem like they may be ready to go first.”
In the cycle of the “Forza” franchise, there is a noticeable trend where Playground and “Forza Motorsport” developer Turn 10 Studios release new installments in alternating years. However, this pattern has not been strictly observed by both companies, especially with the upcoming “Forza Motorsport” unlikely getting released anytime soon.
Unlike the “Motorsport” series, car racing in “Forza Horizon” happens in the streets, so the featured location is one of the key elements in every installment. Grubb, in the same interview, hinted at having information about the featured location “Forza Horizon 5.” But he refused to say anything about it to let Playground make the important announcement when it is ready.
When to expect ‘Forza Motorsport’?
Turn 10 Studios seems to be hinting at overhauling the car racing franchise when it announced the next game as simply “Forza Motorsport,” dropping the numbering scheme. The game is anticipated to be exclusively available on Xbox Series X/S, but its development is reportedly still in the early stages. Considering Turn 10’s usual biennial development timeline, that could mean the next “Forza Motorsport” is unlikely getting released this year or the next.
