Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence will speak at the UBS Wealth Insights 2025 summit in the Asian financial hub on Thursday. Days before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, Pence will offer insights on the U.S. elections and their global implications, focusing on international relations, economic policies, and geopolitical dynamics, according to UBS.
The event, exclusive to UBS clients, will not be open to the media, the company confirmed. Pence, who served as vice president during Trump's first term from 2017 to 2021, has had a strained relationship with Trump since the end of their administration. He notably declined Trump’s request to overturn the 2020 election results and refrained from endorsing Trump during the last presidential election.
Pence’s international role was highlighted in Hong Kong’s national security trial of pro-democracy tycoon Jimmy Lai. In November, Lai testified that he had met Pence in 2019 to request his support for Hong Kong. Lai clarified that he did not ask Pence to take specific actions, stating, "This is beyond me."
Thursday marks the 119th day of Lai’s trial, a case drawing significant international attention. Pence’s appearance at the summit underscores his continued relevance in global politics, particularly concerning U.S. economic and geopolitical policies.
This exclusive event highlights the ongoing importance of U.S. elections and their far-reaching impacts, particularly in Asia, a key region for international business and diplomacy. The discussion is expected to provide valuable perspectives on evolving global trends, making it a significant moment for attendees at the UBS summit.
