Food poisoning is one of the worst things to happen during the Christmas season, and unfortunately, it can be a common occurrence everywhere. In case you or someone you know may have food poisoning, here is what to spot that can indicate having consumed bad food during the holiday season.
Although food poisoning can easily be remedied at home, it can make the one suffering from it miserable. The symptoms that would come after can be thought of as the body’s way of getting rid of the germs that made its way inside through eating spoiled food or drinking spoiled drinks. There are many causes that could trigger food poisoning. If the food is not cooked or heated properly, if it is not stored properly or if it has been left out in the open for too long or expired, or if it has been handled by someone who was sick or did not wash their hands.
The common symptoms of food poisoning include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramps, high fever, and feeling ill overall like pains and aches. These symptoms make itself known within a few days after having consumed the contaminated food.
The only way to treat food poisoning as it normally goes away after a week is by getting a lot of rest, drinking a lot of fluids - a little at a time in case of nausea, eat only when you feel like you can, and take some paracetamol in case of any discomfort.
Meanwhile, bloating is also prevalent during the Christmas season due to eating and maybe overeating. The Sun reports a few ways to get rid of the bloating after a binge too many. According to nutritional therapist Claire Barnes, one of the ways to get rid of bloating is to walk it off. Taking a light stroll after eating a little too much can help get rid of the gas, and reduce the symptoms of those who have a tendency of abdominal bloating.
Another way to get rid of bloating during the holiday is by eating a lot of fiber. Fiber regulates bowel movements, which will prevent constipation and bloating. The third way is to drink some tea after a meal, like a peppermint and ginger teas can help calm the digestive tract.
