‘Fear The Walking Dead’ scored a nomination for the 2016 Emmy Awards for its 16-part spinoff series ‘Flight 462’. Actress Michelle Ang earned a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for her role as disgruntled airplane survivor Alex.
According to Comicbook.com, the complete list of nominees for the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards was announced on July 14 in a ceremony hosted by actors Anthony Anderson and Lauren Graham. This year’s Emmys will take place on September 18 at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles and will air live on ABC with host Jimmy Kimmel.
Although ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ itself failed to garner any nominations, its spinoff series ‘Flight 462’ was included in the list of nominees. It was nominated for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series. Along with ‘Flight 462’, ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Talking Dead’ also earned nominations.
The show’s 16-part miniseries was created to help promote season 2 of ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ and season 6 of ‘The Walking Dead’. It premiered on October 2015 on AMC.com before getting the small screen treatment as television promos for ‘The Walking Dead’. It followed a group of survivors on a commercial airplane in the earliest moments of the zombie outbreak.
According to an article on Fan Sided’s Undead Walking, Michelle Ang was also nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series. Ang plays one of the plane’s passengers Alex, who finds herself in a flight where a zombie infection breaks out and puts everyone in jeopardy.
The 32-year old actress hailing from New Zealand announced the news on her social media page. She tweeted, “Whoa!! Just got off call from my team.. we have an #Emmys2016 nomination for Alex in @FearTWD #flight462#mindblown #EmmyNominations WHAAAT.”
According to the list posted on Los Angeles Times, Ang will be competing against Erinn Hayes of ‘Childrens Hospital’, Patrika Darbo of ‘Acting Dead’, Janet Varney of ‘Everyone's Crazy But Us’, and Tracie Thoms of ‘Send Me: An Original Web Series’.
Ang’s Alex was introduced into the main cast of AMC’s ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ in season 2.
‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is a horror-drama television series created by Robert Kirkman of ‘The Walking Dead’ together with Dave Erickson. It originally premiered on AMC on August 2015 and is intended as a companion series as well as prequel to ‘The Walking Dead’. It is set in Los Angeles, California on the onset of the zombie apocalypse.
The series has been renewed for a 16-episode third season scheduled to premiere in 2017.
