“Empire” Season 5 is well underway and this installment is employing a death-mystery plot that fans are trying to unravel. As of now, it’s still unclear who’s inside the coffin and the main focus of the story so far is on Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), CarterMatt reported.
The premise of this season has the Lyon starting from scratch as their family’s wealth crumbled into nothing. Fortunately for them, a new hope emerged from the storm in the form of the talented up-and-coming singer Treasure (Katlynn Simone). In “Empire” Season 5, Treasure is touted to be the Lyons' golden ticket as they try to push the newcomer to stardom.
But the journey will be fraught with difficulty. In the past, the Lyons didn’t have to deal with a lot of competition in the music industry. Now, however, there are a lot of avenues that artists can choose in order to launch themselves as the next big thing. This will be the struggle for the Lyons in “Empire” Season 5, although this is just a minor obstacle.
The real hindrance to their success is Giselle (Nicole Ari Parker), who recently inherited Empire Entertainment when Eddie Barker (Forest Whitaker) unexpectedly died. The decision to kill the character off was mainly because of a scheduling conflict, as confirmed by showrunner Brett Mahoney. Due to this fact, Mahoney was forced to creatively kill off Eddie Barker in “Empire” Season 5, a development that blindsided the fans.
As things stand, Giselle is now the main antagonist and the Lyons will do well to tread lightly when dealing with her. However, it seems that the conflict between the two factions is going to cool down as Mahoney said they will form an alliance at some point in “Empire” Season 5.
As for who is inside the casket, the showrunner said that the pieces to the puzzle will be gradually revealed as “Empire” Season 5 progresses. But one thing is for sure. Lucious has something to do with whoever lies inside that coffin, a fact that the character seemed remorseful about as he uttered a guilt-filled “I’m sorry.” The next episode is titled “Pay for Their Presumptions” and is set to air on Oct. 3.
