On Friday morning, Elon Musk took to Twitter developments about Tesla’s upcoming Model-3.
CNBC said the CEO first made a clarification that the Model-3 will be a lower-priced version of its higher-priced vehicles. He also said that the Model-3 is not an improvement or a way to cannibalize the market as some people are suggesting.
He wrote, “Am noticing that many people think Model 3 is the "next version" of a Tesla, like iPhone 2 vs 3. This is not true.”
In the early versions, the Model 3 is expected to be a rear-wheel drive only vehicle, which is similar to the early versions of the company’s high-end sedan, Model S. Moreover, Musk also said that there will be a dual-motor version and a performance version of the sedan.
He then posted a video showing the near-final prototype of Model-3, which didn’t say much about the car. He began to go on an explanation on why people need to lower down about their expectations about the Model-3, in a recap by Jordan Golson for The Verge:
“He called himself “a dumb idiot” for naming it Model 3, saying he “didn’t realize at the time that it would cause confusion.” Instead, he says customers should think of the Model 3 as similar to the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4, while the Model S is like a BMW 5 or 6 Series — different cars but sold side by side. Musk noted that he will keep driving the Model S even after the Model 3 arrives.”
