“Elementary” Season 7 will be returning on May 23 and fans can’t wait what the showrunners have come up for its dynamic duo. Part of the reason why this upcoming installment is getting a lot of hype is due to the fact that it will be the last entry for this series.
As such, fans should expect a bigger and more explosive storyline for Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu). What’s more, Kitty (Ophelia Lovibond) will be returning in “Elementary” Season 7 and will be lending her expertise with the iconic pair, TVLine reported.
The last time Sherlock’s protégé made her appearance was back in season five. During that time, Kitty revealed to her mentor what made her give up being a detective, which was due to her having to take care of her son, Archie. That particular episode ended on a satisfying note when Kitty made Sherlock and Watson the godparents of the little tot. As for what will occur in “Elementary” Season 7, nothing substantial has come up just yet.
However, TVLine has an exclusive promo for the upcoming installment, highlighting Kitty’s return and Watson appearing unhappy being stationed in London. But what’s intriguing in the 30-second clip is Watson asking Sherlock why the latter is going out of his way to please her. Could this be a sign that “Elementary” Season 7 will be transforming their professional relationship into a romantic one?
Well, judging by the previous statement of showrunner Rob Doherty, that is unlikely to happen – which is quite the relief. Sherlock and Watson being lovers will undoubtedly irk most – if not all – of the series’ following since it will hurt the characters as a whole. Doherty is well aware of this fact that’s why he’s solidifying the platonic relationship of Sherlock and Watson in “Elementary” Season 7.
Regarding the timeline, it has been confirmed that the next entry will be employing a one-year jump after the conclusion of the previous installment. There will be a lot of minor changes in “Elementary” Season 7, but the general formula will stay the same way. Hopefully, the showrunners provide a satisfying ending for this series on account that it will be last for the crime-solving duo.
