“Elementary” Season 7 is going to shake things up for Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan (Lucy Liu) as the iconic duo is going to be stationed in London in the next installment. Story-wise, the characters’ transfer was due to the deal Sherlock made in the previous finale, TV Line reported.
It can be recalled that when Hannah (Liza J. Bennett) killed Michael (Desmond Harrington), Joan became the prime suspect in the murder. In order to protect Joan, Sherlock admitted that he was the one who killed Michael. But rather than going to prison, the private investigator entered a deal where he would have to live in London for some time. Indeed, “Elementary” Season 7 will have a time jump of one year following the events that took place which saw Michael finally meeting his maker.
As for why Sherlock and Joan were placed there by showrunner Rob Doherty, he revealed that it was “canonically appropriate” to send both characters to England. Doherty said that the decision was akin to bringing home both characters as they were originally written to operate in London. As such, “Elementary” Season 7 will have the duo solve crimes around the city for a while.
However, this will not be a permanent case. Even though Sherlock is now barred from entering the U.S., he will still feel the need to return to the place since it was there where he forged his friendship with Watson. But Doherty said that by the end of “Elementary” Season 7, Sherlock and Joan’s relationship with the FBI will be in tatters, which is concerning, to say the least.
While both will try to find a way to work in the streets of New York again, they will have to move in such a way that Sherlock doesn’t get into prison. On the personal side of things, it seems Doherty doesn’t want Sherlock involved in a romantic plotline in this installment and wants to focus on work instead. As for Joan, she will still have a deep platonic relationship with Sherlock, something that will be explored further in “Elementary” Season 7. CBS has yet to announce when the next installment will air but it’s expected to be for release sometime in 2019.
