‘Elementary’ season 5’s episode 8, entitled “How The Sausage Is Made”, will find Joan worried over Sherlock’s wellbeing after finding out that he had been lying to her about attending his recovery meetings. Meanwhile, the two will investigate a death caused by poisoned sausage.
The synopsis for episode 8 posted on Cartermatt reads, “Joan (lucy Liu) worries Sherlock’s (Jonny Lee Miller) sobriety is at risk when she learns he has been lying to her about attending recovery meetings. Also, Sherlock and Joan discover a man’s death caused by ingesting poisoned sausage is connected to a lab working on a breakthrough in the artificial meat industry.”
It seems that the incoming episode may find Joan worrying about Sherlock’s relapse after she learns that he has been keeping secrets from her. Perhaps another confrontation between Holmes and his sober companion will blow up in the small screen once more.
Dr. Joan Watson came to Sherlock’s aid when she was hired by his father to act as his sober companion. She helps him remain abstinent following his release from rehabilitation so he would not relapse to a life of addiction.
This would not be the first time the two will butt heads regarding his sobriety and recovery. Sherlock had been struggling with following through with his recovery meetings placing him in more danger. This could be a major cause of concern for Joan as she may feel that she has failed him.
In the same episode, Joan and Sherlock will investigate a death traced back to the ingestion of poisoned sausage. The laced meat is connected to a laboratory working on a discovery for the artificial meat industry.
Meanwhile, Joan’s relationship with Shinwell may continue to be a focus in the incoming episodes. According to the A.V. Club, this relationship has been a turning point for Joan’s life and may prove to be a valuable story arc worth exploring. When Joan makes mistakes, Shinwell calls her on it.
‘Elementary’ season 5’s episode 8, entitled “How The Sausage Is Made”, is scheduled to air on CBS on November 27, 2016. It was directed by Michael Pressman and written by Mark Hudis. It will be followed by episode 9, entitled "It Serves You Right to Suffer", scheduled for December 11, 2016.
