Cybertruck’s 1 Million Backlog Shrinks Fast as Tesla Ramps Up Orders

Tesla is quickly converting its 1 million Cybertruck reservations into orders, accelerating the pace as customers finalize their configurations.

Cybertruck Backlog Surpasses 1 Million Bookings

According to the people Tesla is inviting to configure their Cybertrucks, the company is moving quickly through its massive backlog of more than 1 million bookings.

Despite widespread mockery of the Cybertruck's design, Tesla nonetheless managed to secure over a million bookings following the vehicle's unveiling.

Considering that Tesla lowered the Cybertruck deposit cost to $100 (from $500 to $40,000 depending on the vehicle program prior), these reservations clearly do not reflect the best intentions to buy.

Reservation Holders May Reconsider Purchases

In addition, some reservation holders would likely decide against purchasing the Cybertruck due to the higher price and reduced range offered by the production version that Tesla presented.

The Cybertruck with two motors costs $80,000, but the only version available from Tesla right now is the "Foundation Series" model, which adds $20,000 to the price by lumping all the options together.

It turns out that most people wanted the two Cybertruc models with two motors and three motors, but Tesla is only offering them with the Foundations Series.

However, Tesla is already struggling to attract new customers for the Foundation Series, even though the company has had over a million bookings for the Cybertruck for the past three years and has only sold an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 of them.

Tesla Reaches Out to New Customers

According to multiple sources received by Electrek, Tesla is contacting Cybertruck reservation holders who placed their reservations within the past year in an effort to turn their reservations into orders.

Sometimes, customers who have already received their Cybertrucks are requested to customize a second one, even though they had numerous bookings.

A customer from Texas who contacted Electrek last month made a reservation and, two weeks later, got a configuration invitation.

The announcement that Tesla will soon stop making solely "Foundation Series" Cybertrucks was made during the company's earnings call last month.
