Tesla's Cybertruck has joined the fray as Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov deploys the electric vehicles armed with Soviet-era machine guns in Ukraine. This development follows reports of Elon Musk remotely disabling a Cybertruck, stirring international discussion.
Two green combat tanks equipped with heavy machine guns from the Soviet era were stationed by Ramzan Kadyrov, a Chechen warlord and regional leader. Along with Russian forces, they will battle to further Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Cybertrucks Join the War Effort
Jalopnik reports that footage shows a four-vehicle platoon, including two Cybertrucks, moving down a muddy road. Wired reported that soldiers were seen standing on the truck beds, operating the machine guns stated before, and shooting down targets in the air.
According to Wired, the warlord gushed over the Cybertruck's advantages on the battlefield in the caption of the Telegram message, writing: "Mobility, convenience, maneuverability: such qualities of an electric vehicle are in great demand here."
Elon Musk's Alleged Remote Shutdown
Plus, here's more from Wired:
"The new footage came just over a month after Kadyrov published an initial video to Telegram showing off a Cybertruck armed with a Russian Kord 12.7 x 108 mm heavy machine gun. That Cybertruck, Kadyrov claimed in a separate Telegram post made the day before unveiling the fresh pair of vehicles, had recently been disabled “remotely” by Tesla chief Elon Musk, who had previously denied gifting the notorious warlord the vehicle in the first place, likely because it’s prohibited under US sanctions on Russia."
Chechen Forces Weaponize Cybertrucks
According to Wired, Kadyrov reacted to the action by remarking, "This is not manly," on Telegram.
Mounting machine guns atop pickup trucks isn't very novel.
"It was only a matter of time before some enterprising combatant somewhere slapped a machine gun on a Cybertruck. Both regular militaries and irregular forces around the world have been whipping up “technicals”—or “nonstandard tactical vehicles” improvised from civilian rides—for more than a century."
