For those who might have been worried that “Criminal Minds” Season 14 would be the show’s last, it apparently won’t be. This came directly from a CBS executive who noted that there are currently no plans to end the show’s 14-year run. In fact, “Criminal Minds” Season 14 might even see more episodes than the 15 that were already ordered. Season 15 isn’t completely off the table either.
Speaking to Deadline recently, CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl reassured fans that this is not the end for the veteran show. Doubts were sparked after it was learned that “Criminal Minds” Season 14 was only getting 15 episodes out of the 22 that viewers were used to. It turns out that even this particular aspect isn’t final since more episodes could be added.
“As scheduling evolves and we try to get more original episodes on air, we have to cut and paste and sometimes trimming episodes on some of those shows to get more originals on the air,” Kahl explained. “They possibly can get a couple of more episodes. It depends where they are in production, they will let us know when (we need to make that call).”
This is great news for devoted fans of the show, which has apparently been lagging in ratings in recent years. As CarterMatt points out, as long as the show retains its current viewership numbers, which include streaming, it will likely stay on the air for quite a while yet. It’s safe to say that a lot is riding on “Criminal Minds” Season 14.
There’s also the matter of the show potentially getting a 15th season. “Criminal Minds” Season 14 already has the series’ core cast members locked in. Depending on how well this upcoming season performs, season 15 could be greenlit soon or it could become a hard-fought renewal. Fans will definitely want to watch the Sept. 26 season premiere to show support for the series.
