Coca-Cola's Japanese unit is set to launch a groundbreaking smartphone-based service to facilitate purchases for individuals with disabilities at vending machines. The new feature, integrated into the existing Coke ON app, enables users to locate nearby vending machines through smartphone vibrations.
Using voice commands, customers can effortlessly select their preferred products without physically interacting with the machine.
Enhancing Accessibility Through Collaboration
Nikkei reported that Coca-Cola gained crucial insights into the development of this service through its strategic partnership with Osaka-based Mirairo. By leveraging Mirairo's digital ID technology tailored for individuals with disabilities, Coca-Cola addressed challenges like difficulty locating vending machines or reaching high buttons from a wheelchair.
This collaboration underscores Coca-Cola's commitment to inclusivity and innovation in enhancing the daily lives of all consumers.
Furthermore, this project illuminates the path for other corporations to follow, encouraging them to consider how their services and products can be more accessible to diverse populations. By setting such a precedent, Coca-Cola enhances its brand image and contributes to building a more inclusive society where technology serves as a tool for empowerment and equality.
Scheduled for a phased rollout, the service will first be available in select cities, with plans to expand nationwide based on user feedback and operational experience. Packaging Europe noted that The sleek and elegant cans, featuring silver drop designs and distinct background colors, align with consumer preferences for sustainability and convenience. By transitioning to aluminum packaging, smartwater responds to the growing demand for eco-conscious alternatives while ensuring a user-friendly experience during the warmer seasons.
