At the Carbon Neutrality Expo, Tesla's Cybertruck drew significant interest and verified multiple orders despite a two-year delivery wait in China.
Tesla's Cybertruck Draws Attention at the Expo
On Thursday afternoon, dozens of attendees at the Carbon Neutrality Expo swarmed to Tesla's stand to marvel at the Cybertruck. Some even went ahead and placed orders, even though the wait is projected to be at least two years.
In sharp contrast, the booths showcasing BYD, Nio, and Changan's battery-powered vehicles were surprisingly quiet.
Future of Transportation Worth the Wait
According to the South China Morning Post, a professor from North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power named Tian Qingwen thinks the Cybertruck is worth the long wait since it is a unique vehicle that represents the future of transportation.
"I was told that it will not be delivered before 2026 due to overwhelming demand from people around the globe," he stated. "But it is a dream vehicle that I definitely will buy and own."
High Demand Confirmed With Multiple Orders
Per Yahoo Finance, during the four-day carbon-neutrality expo, which began on Wednesday, a Tesla salesperson verified that the company got multiple Cybertruck orders.
The electric vehicle has been accepting orders in China since 2021, but it has not yet been delivered to mainland buyers. The base pricing of the rear-wheel drive model is US$60,990 in the US.
The Cybertruck, which Tesla began shipping to the United States in November, was the subject of much anticipation following May's 16.7% increase in shipments from the company's Gigafactory in Shanghai.
According to statistics provided by the China Passenger Car Association, the factory that produces the Model 3 and Model Y saw an increase in monthly deliveries from 62,167 in April to 72,573 last month. These vehicles are sold both domestically and internationally.
