Cargill Launches Sustainable Agriculture Program for Australian Canola Growers

Cargill actively works hand-in-hand with canola growers, providing them with the necessary tools, resources, and market access to shift toward sustainable agriculture.

Cargill announced the launch of Cargill SustainConnect, a sustainable agriculture program aimed at connecting Australian canola growers with new and emerging markets. This program will benefit local farmers and cater to the rising domestic and international demand for sustainable Australian canola.

Scaling Cargill's Global Sustainable Agriculture Portfolio

Following a successful pilot program in 2023, the introduction of Cargill SustainConnect marks another significant milestone in Cargill's commitment to sustainable farming practices. Chronicle-Tribune noted that this program is tailored to the specific needs of local farmers and their operations, allowing them to be part of Cargill's global efforts to make sustainable agriculture commonplace across its supply chains worldwide.

Cargill SustainConnect is just one example of Cargill's dedication to supporting farmers in transitioning to sustainable agriculture. Cargill aims to address the global climate challenge by partnering with farmers and improving economic prospects for those at the forefront of our food system. Making changes at the grassroots level of the supply chain can significantly impact reducing emissions and building soil resilience for future generations.

Financial Incentives for Environmental Outcomes

According to Bakersfield, Cargill SustainConnect offers a unique financial incentive for positive environmental outcomes by promoting sustainable practices. Through this program, Australian canola growers can improve soil health and contribute to decarbonizing the agricultural supply chain.

Participating farmers can choose from various sustainable agriculture practices, including nutrient management interventions, reduced or no-tillage, and crop residue retention.

In partnership with Regrow, a leading carbon measurement business, Cargill ensures the accurate measurement, reporting, and verification of carbon outcomes. By utilizing in-field data, remote sensing, and crop and soil health modeling, the Regrow platform offers easy enrollment, secure data collection, and transparent measurement and verification options for both growers and Cargill's demand customers.

Cargill has already established the award-winning Cargill RegenConnect program in North America and Europe, further solidifying its global efforts to promote sustainable farming practices. Cargill aims to support an economically viable transition to sustainable agriculture by collaborating with farmers worldwide while shaping a more resilient and environment-friendly future.
