Burger King is bringing back a popular menu item introduced in the 1970s. After decades of non-appearance in the restaurant, the fast-food chain said it would add the Italian Original Chicken Sandwich to the menu list.
Burger King is offering the said sandwich across the country, but it will only be sold for a limited time. Customers can taste the Italian Original Chicken Sandwich again this year, which can be purchased at participating Burger King stores.
The chain sells the sandwich for $5.29, but the price may differ depending on the store's location. This will be on the menu alongside an Italian BK Royal Crispy Chicken sandwich, priced at $7.09.
The newly-added Original Italian Chicken Sandwich is a variant of Burger King's chicken sandwich, but this type uses a long sesame seed bun with a lightly breaded chicken patty drizzled with marinara sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese.
This menu item was first launched in 1978 as part of Burger King's celebration of the International Chicken Sandwich. At that time, the restaurant presented this menu as something "basic." In later years, the sandwich was upgraded in various ways. The current version is the mentioned BK Royal Crispy Chicken.
The classic chicken sandwich was also described as revolutionary when it was released in 1978 because it was the first time long sandwiches appeared. Rather than the usual round buns, it was the first time customers encountered a "long" sandwich.
At any rate, the Burger King Italian Original Chicken Sandwich is back for a limited time, which has excited many customers. The sandwich will feature the same ingredients from years ago, such as the breaded, crispy fried meat patty, mozzarella cheese, and marinara sauce.
Finally, Burger King did not mention until when the Original Italian Chicken Sandwich will be on the menu, but it could be until mid-month.
