Anthropic is reportedly in talks to acquire Nvidia-backed AI startup Decart AI as the Claude developer looks to expand its computing capabilities and address growing demand ahead of a potential public listing.

Bloomberg News first reported the discussions, saying a possible deal could value Decart AI at around $6 billion. The negotiations remain at an early stage, and there is no guarantee that an agreement will be finalized.

Decart specializes in artificial intelligence infrastructure, optimization technology and AI models, capabilities that could help Anthropic improve performance and handle increasing demand for its Claude AI services. If the acquisition moves forward, Decart employees are expected to join Anthropic’s inference and performance organization.

Among Decart’s technologies is Lucy, an AI model capable of editing live video in real time. The startup has also developed Oasis, a model designed to generate simulated environments that can be used to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems.

Decart has attracted significant backing from major technology investors. In May, the company announced a $300 million funding round led by Radical Ventures, with AI chip giant Nvidia participating as a new investor.

Anthropic declined to comment on the potential acquisition, while Decart did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours.

The potential Decart AI acquisition comes as Anthropic prepares for a major initial public offering and steps up efforts to strengthen the infrastructure supporting its rapidly expanding AI business. Capacity constraints have become an increasingly important challenge as demand for advanced generative AI models continues to rise.

Anthropic is also expanding its engineering capabilities across both hardware and software. The company recently said it was recruiting engineers with expertise across the technology stack to help co-design custom AI chips and models.

Those efforts are intended to make Claude faster and more efficient while potentially reducing infrastructure bottlenecks. Acquiring Decart could give Anthropic additional AI optimization expertise as competition among leading artificial intelligence companies intensifies.
