“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 6 has officially begun production and fans and cast members alike are ecstatic about what’s in store with the next installment, Screen Rant reported. It can be recalled that the comedy cop series was canceled by Fox, with the network citing issues with scheduling and where to slot the show in.
Following Fox’s announcement, fans both regular and megastars took to social media and started a campaign to save the show. The support was so overwhelming that NBC picked up the series and ordered the showrunners to create 13 episodes for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6.”
Show creators Michael Schur and Dan Goor first pitched their ideas for the show to NBC. They explained that a comedy series set in a police precinct is infrequently used and has a lot of avenues for creativity. NBC decided they were not interested and so Schur and Goor introduced their idea to Fox, which loved the duo’s premise. Five seasons later and the network decided to ax the show.
After the news broke out, fans were devastated, including Mark Hamill and Lin-Manuel Miranda, with the latter spearheading the campaign to save the comedy series. When NBC heard the news, the heads of the network said they were interested in giving the show a new home and ordered 13 episodes for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 6.
“Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said regarding “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 6. “Mike Schur, Dan Goor, and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!”
Andy Samberg, who plays Jake Peralta, recently shared a photo via Twitter where the comedian and writer is seen wearing his character’s uniform, smiling and goofing around with other cast members. The release date for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 6 has yet to be announced but NBC did say fans will have to wait until 2019 for the comedy series’ return.
