Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie achieved a major development in their divorce proceedings after finalizing the custody arrangements for their six children. Will this mean their marriage can be officially nullified soon?
Based on reports, it might take at least another six months before Jolie and Pitt fully settle every aspect of their divorce. It can be recalled last month their lawyers reportedly asked the court to extend the deadline until the end of June 2019 for them to file settlement documents. If not approved, the court may once again require both parties to attend a court hearing.
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016 but there had not been a substantial development until last week when the parties arrived at a settlement over the custody of their children. “A custody arrangement was agreed to weeks ago, and has been signed by both parties and the judge,” said Jolie’s lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean.
Pitt and Jolie would have faced each other in court last Dec. 4 had their not been a settlement. “The agreement, which is based on the recommendations of the child custody evaluator, eliminates the need for a trial. The filing and details of the agreement are confidential to protect the best interests of the children,” Jolie’s camp added.
Though the child custody arrangement is one of the most important aspects of getting a divorce, it is just one part of the entire process. Jolie and Pitt still have to settle the division of their properties among other things before a judge legalizes their separation.
Meanwhile, it was also previously reported that Jolie was demanding to have full custody of their children while Pitt wants a shared responsibility. This information was debunked by a source and the reported provisions in their newly filed agreement seem to prove they both were open to having shared legal and physical custody of the six kids.
Jolie and Pitt started their relationship after working together for the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” movie. Together, they have six children namely 17-year old Maddox, 15-year-old Pax, 13-year-old Zahara, 12-year-old Shiloh, and 10-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
