‘Bob’s Burgers’ season 7’s episode 8, “Ex Mach Tina,” is set to feature Tina as she attends school through a robot version of herself after enrolling in a special program. Her robot is set to get closer with long-time crush Jimmy Jr.
The synopsis for “Ex Mach Tina” posted on IMDB reads, “After hurting her ankle, Tina (Dan Mintz) enrolls in a program that enables her to send a robot of herself to school and the robot gives her an unexpected breakthrough with Jimmy Jr. (H. Jon Benjamin).”
It seems that Tina will have to get creative and telecommute to school after she is unable to go to class herself because of an ankle injury. She sends a robot version of herself after enrolling in a special program for droids. Surprisingly, the robot gives her a breakthrough with her long-time crush Jimmy Pesto Jr.
Tina is the Belcher’s eldest child. Although she is a hopeless romantic, she has minimal social skills and has difficulty interacting with peers – especially school crushes. She attends Wagstaff school with her siblings Gene (Eugene Mirman) and Louise (Kristen Schaal). The character is voiced by American comedian, actor and writer Dan Kintz also known for his work on ‘Adventure Time’ and ‘The Awesomes.’
The episode’s title alludes to the award-winning independent science-fiction psychological-thriller ‘Ex Machina,’ directed by Alex Garland and released last April 24, 2015 in the United States.
The film starred Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, and Alicia Vikander, and follows a programmer named Caleb as he is invited by a tech company CEO to administer a Turing Test to a humanoid robot. Caleb eventually develops feelings for his test subject, which leads to lethal consequences.
During a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, series showrunner Loren Bouchard talked about what to expect for “Ex Mach Tina.” Bouchard revealed, “Yeah, there’s this real-life thing where they have tried to come up with robots but not robots — like remote-controlled telecommuters. It’s an iPad on wheels.”
Bouchard continued, “Theoretically, a kid who can’t go to school would use this to go to school. You could actually walk down the hall. So the school has access to one of these and when Tina sprains her ankle, Mr. Frond, the school guidance counselor, basically jumps in and signs her up to be this tester for this program. So she spends this episode guiding this robot around. But what happens is Jimmy, Jr. — her on again, off again flame — seems to be able to talk to the robot more easily than he can talk to her.”
‘Bob’s Burgers’ season 7’s episode 8, “Ex Mach Tina,” is scheduled to air on January 8, 2017 on Fox.
