“Blue Bloods” season 9 is going to premiere this month. But some fans might still not be over the death of Linda Reagan (Amy Carlson). With that, some might be wondering if the new season includes some references or flashback scenes to the day she died.
For a brief recap, Linda died in a helicopter crash and it was one of the biggest surprises in season 8. Linda simply did not appear in season 8 anymore as her death happened sometime within the time jump between season 7 and the season 8 premiere. But some fans are still hoping to find more answers regarding this matter in “Blue Bloods” season 9.
In an earlier interview with TVLine, showrunner Kevin Wade said Carlson decided not to renew her contract for the CBS police procedural series after seven seasons. The situation left him with no choice but to kill Linda off-screen. While Wade seems resolved with the decisions they made for Linda’s character, fans are still wondering if they will provide more closure in “Blue Bloods” season 9 despite Carlson’s absence.
One of the suggested approaches to answering questions about Linda’s death is through flashback scenes, according to TVLine. But Wade said that the show is not used to having flashback scenes just to fill in a story. He added that he also does not see them doing this for “Blue Bloods” season 9.
In the same interview, Wade said that the series has already dealt with Linda’s death through Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and how coped with the losing her wife in season 8. “We’re moving on, and I really don’t know that it’s something I could revisit [in ‘Blue Bloods’ season 9],” Wade concluded.
Meanwhile, Danny is about to get an important arc in “Blue Bloods” season 9. It was recently revealed that he will be going after the drug cartel member Louis Delgado (played by Lou Diamond Phillips). The series returns on Sept. 28, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
