‘Better Call Saul’ season 3’s episode 1, titled “Mabel,” will follow Jimmy and Chuck as their relationship worsens further while Kim struggles with running her own firm. Meanwhile, Bob Odenkirk confirmed the rise of Saul Goodman in the third season during a recent interview.
The synopsis for the third season’s premiere episode posted on AMC’s website reads, “Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) and Chuck's (Michael McKean) relationship deteriorates. Kim (Rhea Seehorn) feels the pressure of running her own firm. Mike (Jonathan Banks) investigates the note left on his car.”
The upcoming episode will feature the ongoing decline of Jimmy and Chuck’s relationship while Kim begins to feel the pressures of running her own law firm.
According to the Independent, actor Bob Odenkirk revealed that season 3 will feature the rise of Jimmy as the iconic Saul Goodman. Odenkirk teased, “He’s a monster but he doesn’t come down from the hills, he comes out from inside like Alien… Yes, in season 3 we get to see Saul Goodman, but not in the form that you ultimately see him in in Breaking Bad - you see a version of Saul Goodman and he is actually called Saul Goodman.”
It was also reported that Gus Fring of ‘Breaking Bad’ will be making his proper introduction into the show in season 3. Odenkirk said, “Gus Fring is back, as people have already figured out, but not only is he back - there’s a story with him and we get to learn a little more about his empire building... He doesn’t just pass through, he’s not just an extraneous character to Saul’s story.”
Meanwhile, according to Variety, co-creator Peter Gould revealed that the challenges of creating the third season were the same as previous seasons. Gould said that Jimmy’s shifting values and psychology made his story more complex. He said, “Understanding where he is moment to moment is the biggest challenge we have. Once we understand his psychology and where he is as a person, figuring out the story is much, much easier.”
‘Better Call Saul’ season 3’s episode 1, titled “Mabel,” is scheduled to air on AMC on April 10, 2017. It was directed by Vince Gilligan. It will be followed by episode 2, titled “Witness,” scheduled to be released on April 17.
