BIGBANG member TOP is set to be discharged earlier than scheduled. The eldest in the boyband group from YG Entertainment will finally complete his service in the army in a few days, and fans are getting ready to welcome him back to the civilian life.
BIGBANG’s TOP is serving as a public service worker for about a year and ten months now after he was assigned to serve at the Yongsan District Office. Initially, he was said to be discharged on July 8, but this was moved two days earlier, so his new discharge date is set for July 6.
Reason for Early Discharge
The Yongsan District Office clarified that it was not due to special treatment but rather, TOP’s completion of work was reset to an earlier time simply because their office is closed on Mondays, and his discharged date falls on this day. “The Yongsan Crafts Museum, which Choi Seung Hyun (TOP) is serving at, operates on Saturdays as a regular work day and is closed on Mondays,” the rep from the office explained. “As a result, Choi Seung Hyun will complete his final day on Saturday, July 6 and be discharged at 6 p.m. that day.”
TOP’s Original Army Discharge Date
BIGBANG’s TOP is actually was scheduled to be released from the army in August, however, due to the recent changes in Korea’s military service dates, the length of enlistment was reduced. All men who enlisted in 2018 will be granted a 27-day reduction in their terms of service as per the new Defense Reform 2.0 regulation.
TOP initially served as a conscripted policeman at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency when he enlisted in March 2017, however, he was accused of using marijuana, so he was dismissed from his post. His work was halted and when he resumed in January 2018, he was moved to Yongsan to be a public service worker where he served in a museum.
On his discharge day, fans are expected to welcome him back by going to the Yongsan District Office. But BIGBANG’s TOP made it clear that there will be no special events on that day, but since fans will come, he will simply spend a moment to greet them without any discharge ceremony. After expressing his gratitude for waiting and supporting him throughout his life as a soldier, he will be going home, but it is not certain if he will start his show business activities at once.
