Although “Avatar 2” is not likely to come out any time soon, a lot of details about the movie and its fellow sequels are already out in public. Among them are the titles for all four films that are coming out and based on those alone, it can be easy to guess the direction that James Cameron is going. Simply put, these, along with the first film appear to be stand-ins for sagas that could easily be part of Native American lore.
The official title of “Avatar 2” will be “Avatar: The Way of Water,” CNET reports, and it will supposedly involve dealing with a tribe in Pandora that lives near the sea. As can be expected, the events in the first “Avatar” film will have some bearing in the plot of the second movie. However, this will be less and less the case in the future sequels.
Most of the plotlines in the upcoming movies will largely be about family, loyalty, tribe relationships, and building a coherent society that makes sense in Pandora. “Avatar 2” will basically be about starting this process where Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) will need to deal with other groups.
At this point, the two will already have a family together and this means that the stakes will be higher for the pair. Adding to the issue will likely be the return of the elements from Earth with a thirst for payback after their forces were kicked out of Pandora. The colonialist themes in “Avatar 2” will be quite a nice fit with the corporate message that will come with the movie.
With this being the case, the Dec. 17, 2020 release date of “Avatar 2” will be something of a benchmark to tell if the future sequels will be well-received. The films are all being shot simultaneously, after all.
