There have been a lot of mysteries surrounding the sequel movies to the first “Avatar” flick but details have been slowly trickling through the cracks and being confirmed. For example, the titles for “Avatar 2” and all the other subsequent films in the franchise have been leaked. While James Cameron did confirm their authenticity, he also noted that they could be changed. Another compelling detail about the upcoming films is that they will be an anthology instead of direct sequels.
As CNET reports, it would appear that the deal between Disney and Fox will not affect the film properties that are already underway. Among them is “Avatar 2” as well as all the other titles in the James Cameron franchise. As it stands, they will proceed as planned, which is to be delayed repeatedly if past trends are to be considered.
In any case, there have been plenty of leaks with regards to “Avatar 2” and the other films already. Among them are the potential titles like “Avatar 2: The Way of Water,” “Avatar 3: The Seed Bearer,” “Avatar 4: The Tulkun Rider,” and “Avatar 5: The Quest for Eywa.” It’s just as well that James Cameron is thinking of changing some of them since the last title comes off as particularly cheesy.
Then there’s the matter of “Avatar 2” and all the movies will essentially be self-contained stories. It would appear that the franchise will follow the same anthology trends as those by “Indiana Jones” or the “007” films. If so, this would certainly be quite the ambitious project beyond what other filmmakers have done before.
As to when fans can expect to see “Avatar 2” in theatres, the current schedule puts it on Dec. 18, 2020. One can only hope that the writing process has gotten a lot smoother and that there will be no more delays.
